Compress and convert images to WebP in WordPress

WebP is an image format that was developed by Google with the goal of providing better compression than other popular formats like png or jpg. The format can also be used to create animated images, and it supports transparency in both lossy and lossless formats.

WebP files are supported on most major browsers today, including Chrome and Firefox (which both use WebM video format). While they may not be supported in Safari yet, there are ways around this issue so you can still take advantage of them today!

WebP is an image format developed by Google. It’s comparable to the jpg or png formats in that it allows us to save images as files with a compressed size, and then restore them as exact duplicates of the original. What sets it apart is that WebP offers a significant reduction in file size for most types of images, without any deterioration in quality.

So why should you care about optimizing your images for the web? Simply put, faster websites provide a better user experience, and better user experiences mean your site visitors will be more likely to convert into paying customers. In fact, at least 40% of visitors will leave a website if it takes more than 3 seconds to load!

I’m sure you can understand why this is important. If your images are too big, they’ll slow down your site and make people leave. And if people leave your site, you don’t get customers or leads. That’s why optimizing image sizes is essential for any business that wants to grow its traffic and revenue online.
